Souper Bowl of Caring - This Sunday
The youth are once again collecting for Samaritan Ministries’ Souper Bowl of Caring! Immediately following worship this Sunday, we will gather in Fellowship Hall for a Soup lunch. Our youth will collect donations to give to Samaritan Ministries of Winston Salem, our local food kitchen that helps to fight hunger every day. We are reminded on days where we share in abundant food and festivities that there are those in our community who never have enough to eat. We hope you will plan to join us for this fun afternoon of fellowship and give generously as you are able.
Bagging Up Blessings for Sunnyside Ministry
During Lent, Calvary will be collecting non-perishable food for Sunnyside Ministry. Please grab a bag to fill from the Narthex or West Lobby and bring them back the week of March 22nd. We will coordinate delivery to Sunnyside. Last year, participating churches helped collect more than 15,000 pounds of food during Lent, and together we are hopeful to exceed that milestone again. With back-to-back winter storms, rising food costs, and increased demand at the pantry, the need for this support will be especially critical in the community.
Ash Wednesday
On Wednesday, February 18th, we will observe Ash Wednesday with two services, a simple service at 11 AM and our traditional service with music at 6:30 PM. Both services will include communion and the imposition of ashes. At 5:15 PM that evening, we will host a pancake dinner in Fellowship Hall.
Chancel Choir Rehearsal
There will be no rehearsal this week, due to the Ash Wednesday service.
Lenten Devotionals
We are providing free copies of Life Stories: A 40-Day Devotional on Madeleine L’Engle’s A Circle of Quiet as a devotional guide through the season of Lent. Using this devotional, we set out on a pilgrimage with Madeleine L’Engle as our guide, exploring biblical stories alongside passages from her classic memoir, A Circle of Quiet. Created in collaboration with the stewards of L’Engle’s legacy, this resource invites us to follow her lead, retelling the stories of our lives as we take stock of how far we’ve come, reconnect with where we are, and turn the page toward the future, catching sight of what God is calling us to do next. Copies can be found in the West Lobby underneath the bulletin board and in the Narthex. A digital copy can be found HERE.
Opportunity for Community & Prayer
Virtual prayer meetings will be offered on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month, at 9:00 AM via Zoom. Flower Committee
When fresh flowers are given for Sunday worship, members of the Flower Committee gather after worship to disassemble the arrangement into vases, and then arrange to deliver the flowers to Calvary's members who are unable to attend worship. The committee is open to new volunteers! You aren't committing to every Sunday, just when you can, and it can be a very wonderful, personal ministry from the congregation to our absent members. It's also a great way for you to get to know our members! Please contact Frances Swing or the church office for more information or to volunteer.
Women’s Bible Study and Opportunity for Fellowship
This week, our Wednesday morning bible study will meet at 9:30 AM in the Burke Room and then go to the Ash Wednesday service. It is not necessary to attend every week. Feel free to attend when you can and bring a friend if you'd like. The discussion will be about “The Armor of God” from Ephesians. This study is available via Zoom as well using this link us02web.zoom.us/j/87629578107?pwd=RjMk6W3M9wN9dpBk7QUNUyhh0qXpNC.1 (Password 453527
