Bible Study
This coming Wednesday the 20th, there will be no bible study, due to a Christmas Eve planning meeting. We will meet again on the 27th.
Church Council
Church Council will be held in-person in the sanctuary following an abbreviated worship service on Sunday, November 7. Elections will be held for board members and synod delegates. The Council meeting will be live-streamed but in order to vote you will need to attend in person. As with worship, masking is strongly encouraged. The Nominating Committee announces the following slate of nominees:
Salem Congregation Central Board of Elders: Elaine Peddycord
Calvary’s Board of Elders: David Jackson, Pat George and Wendy Goforth
Calvary's Board of Trustees: Duane Cheek, Frank Martin and Mike McCollum
Synod Delegates: Bill Seippel, Hanna Cheek and Amanda Schumpert
Alternate Synod Delegates: Eric Vernon, Nancy Miller and Matt Kane
Nominations will be received from the floor for any of these offices. However, you must contact the person you are nominating prior to council to determine his or her willingness to serve.
Lovefeast in a BoxTM for 2021
If you’ve been at Calvary for a while, you might remember the Lovefeast-in-a-Box™ program launched by our Sisters Fellowship several years ago. The idea is to connect our faraway friends and family with Christmas Eve lovefeasts by shipping dressed candles, coffee fixins, Moravian cookies, and the worship ode in tidy packages, so that long-distance and stay-at-home worshippers can participate with us via livestream on Christmas Eve. In light of the continuing pandemic, Lovefeast-in-a-Box™ continues to be a great way to help participants celebrate Christmas Eve safely.
If you are already a local Calvary member, we hope you will be able to attend our lovefeast on the lawn in person this year. However, if you’d prefer to attend from home, or if you’d like to order a box for your extended family and friends, now is the time to reserve one!
Visit Lovefeastinabox.com to place an order. You can purchase individual or double boxes, or you can order a family pack (serves 6). Boxes can be picked up in person (12/12 & 12/14) or shipped (via USPS on 12/6). Orders must be placed by November 15.
We know thousands of people in our community and beyond cherish their time at Calvary each Christmas Eve. While we are excited to host an in-person lovefeast on our lawn for 2021 as a gift to our community, we know that there is still a need for the at-home version. We hope you will help us connect as many people as possible to this special lovefeast-at-a-distance. Questions? Contact Ginni Baker at SistersFellowship@calvarymoravian.org.
Fellowship Dinner
Mark your calendars for 4pm, Sunday, November 7. Barbara and Bill Howard will once again host our church family at their farm for some safe, fun, in person fellowship! We’re planning a hotdog dinner (we’ll provide all the things and have one person grilling and serving) and a bonfire, so bring your own s’mores roasting stick and we’ll have individual packages of s’more fixins’. Our very own Spencer Bullins and Greg Biggam will play some music for us and Bill will fire up the tractor for a hayride around their farm. (Rain-date: 4pm, November 14.) The address is 148 Jim Frye Rd. Advance, NC 27006.
Cooks Needed!
The Women’s Fellowship is organizing a new committee—Take A Meal. This committee is open to the entire congregation. This will be done through an app called Signup Genius. When a meal is needed, whether for death, birth or any other reason, we will send out an email from Signup Genius with what food items are needed, how much is needed, and where to bring items. You sign up for what you would like to provide. Others can see what has been signed up for, preventing duplications. Please send your email address, name, and phone number to donnacheek92@hotmail.com.
Thank you for your willingness to participate in this valuable ministry. Questions? Call Donna Cheek at 336-399-0857.
